Built in a simple yet modern fashion, this property also has a properly pretty pool and is within a 15-minute walk of amenities and the beach, so at this stage it looks pretty good. When you throw in the kind of spacious, cool and yet luxurious interiors you’d dream of in the midday sun this goes from pretty good to top class.

Markanna in Akrotiri sits on a hillside overlooking the Ionian Sea, in a part of Greece famous for inspiring great writers and poets. With 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, this villa nestles in an olive grove and is set over four floors so you can always find a bit of peace if need be. A short drive from the town of Zakynthos, this villa is fit for a nobleman or philosopher, and has a pool suitable for ‘Eureka’ moments as well as afternoon drinks.

Doretta might be the ultimate family property, with something to amuse all ages and interests. For the adults this 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom property is set on a hillside with some astonishing views, and has a terrace with built-in barbecue. For the teens it is a short drive or a stroll down to the town, and if that is too much to bear the property also has a game room with table football and pool on hand, whilst the youngster can have hours of fun in the secluded private pool.

With a private pool for the days when walking seems like a step too far, and a tranquil setting, this can become a bubble of perfection to escape into.

Villa Chloe is a three bedroom, two bathroom villa straight out of a postcard image. The private swimming pool is set within a well-manicured garden, making the building and pool area as winsomely attractive as any, and indoors this is a lovely little villa bursting with character. Although it is set on a complex of 5 properties the design and layout are such that you’ll never be disturbed if that is your wish, and evening meals in the warm Greek air will become a habit you’ll never want to give up.

Pyrgos Mavrabelo might be my personal favourite villa that I’ve seen. Designed around a traditional Greek windmill, this property has 2-bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, meaning small families or friends can enjoy staying in it, although the design means virtually anyone walking past will be hard pressed not to smile. Once you throw in the private pool, hot-tub and sauna this seems too good to be true, but I promise you it is a wonderful reality.

Emerald Classic Villa is set in the extremely prestigious area of Agios Nikoloas, and this villa, within a small private complex of fantastic holiday villas, will provide everything you could need for a fantastic break. 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom mean it is perfect for small groups or families, and with the fishing harbour of Agios Nikoloas offering all the tavernas, mini-markets and bars you could wish for it is a villa with much to recommend it.
